About Elyssa

Elyssa Warner is a Philadelphia based artist working in a multitude of mediums including glass and painting and drawing and wants to explore glass and other means and processes to push the boundaries of what these substances can achieve.

Elyssa’s work includes inspiration from bodies like the grotesque, fantasy, the stylistic aesthetic and music of the punk subculture and retro American themes. She often draws ideas and artistry from video games and movies. Within these themes she began exploring concepts like life and death, cultural based art, organic forms like dead decaying matter, and dark imagery and concepts. She often is drawn to shock factors and works that elicit an emotional response.

Although Elyssa has tucked a lot of shop knowledge under her belt with glass and other materials, she mainly gravitates towards flame working, one of her most successful pieces being, “The Beauty of Decay”. This piece is about the biological life cycle of humans and plants. This piece was an installation based flameworked piece on a fully intact found Ibex skull. It features flameworked borosilicate glass in the shape of plant roots and forms to resemble organic plant matter cascading down the face and horns of the skull, dripping onto the pedestal and spilling onto the floor.
